Domestic Terrorist No. 1 -  FBI

Update: The use of entrapment against Muslims by law enforcement, outlined in the post below, is closely linked to the intentional stoking of anti-Arab sentiment and Islamaphobia by a well-funded set of right wing media figures, as outlined in this piece by Aljazeera about a detailed report by the Center For American Progress. Many of those behind this campaign, not surprisingly, are right-wing supporters of Israel. The funders list includes usual right wing suspects like billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife, better known as the main money man behind the attempts to destroy Bill Clinton. Mouthpieces include well known rabidly Zionist Islamaphobes like Daniel Pipes. Fox News' role in disseminating their hatred is recognized.

Israel, especially the Zionist Right, has long attempted to gain support by playing the race card, claiming that it is surrounded by hostile Arab nations intent on its destruction and labeling all Palestinians as Arab terrorists. Although hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were slaughtered or forcibly removed from their homeland when the Zionist state was declared in 1948, and Palestinians who did manage to hang onto their homes and farms have ever since been subject to a continual process of ethnic cleansing by Israel, under this racist view, any Palestinian who protests or tries to defend themselves, let alone fights back, is automatically labled a terrorist.

I made mention of our government's war on our own Muslim citizens a few posts ago in commenting about entrapment, that is, when the cops use deceptive tactics to get convictions on people who have not actually committed any crimes. Here is the full story of how undercover FBI agents hang out at mosques around the US and infiltrate community groups, looking for suseptible young men they can talk into agreeing to take part in terrorist plots, plots which the FBI has conceived of and plans out and which have absolutely no chance of ever happening. The young men, who are often troubled miscreants, are then arrested to great media fanfare, tried and locked up for long prison sentences. As it happens, most so-called domestic terrorist arrests are of this variety. In other words, it was just the cops setting someone up for a fall.

Next time you hear a member of the media talking breathlessly about a plot to blow up Miami or La Guardia airport, keep in mind the fact that they are reading directly from an FBI press release, and that it's more than likely that there was never any danger to anyone, except to some sad and lonely young Muslim male whose life has just been ruined.

OK, so I wasn't on the road to Damascus that day

Spartanburg, SC

I'm waiting to make a delivery at one of these gleaming new non union automobile factories that now litter the South. Most of the Japanese and European car makers now have assembly plants here, whereby the working classes of Japan, Europe and the United States can all be given the shaft at one time, in one place.

Since Capitalism perfected the art of using relocation to play potential sites against each other to extract the maximum concessions -- i.e., profit -- from the site finally chosen, our slavishly complicit politicians have become their partners in this crime, ever eager to bankrupt our public coffers for the funds used to bribe their Capitalist masters with tax giveaways, tax credits, free land, and whatever else the Capitalist demands.

Breakdown In Bloomfield

The cop was somewhere back there behind his sunglasses but I couldn't see him. He had led with the angry cop voice and the cop uniform, and the cop paraphernalia, of course. They come with more cop paraphernalia every year. It's as if someone somewhere has a cop tailor's dummy and keeps strapping more and more cop paraphernalia around its waist. Periodically a shipment and an invoice show up at all the city governments in the country. Cops all line up. Paraphernalia gets passed out.

"You've gotta get this thing out of the road right now," the cop snarled from his hiding place behind his sunglasses.

I had no response for him. He had me on that one. The engine was dead. The truck outweighed me five hundred to one. Should I begin at the beginning?

The Madam Presidents

Hillary Clinton and Hugo Chavez, January, 2011
Hillary Clinton is being encouraged by some Democrats and Progressives, who are tired of having their interests sold out to the Republican handmaidens of the rich, to run in the presidential primaries against Barak Obama.

Happy Birthday, Fidel

Fidel at home, October, 2010

Today marks Fidel Castro's 85th birthday.

There is ample cause to celebrate this milestone in the life of a man who remains an inspiration the world over to those who aspire to find a better way to live than one in which a tiny minority, not through any merit of their own but by happenstance of birth, connections, or through sheer ruthlessness enjoy the best of life at the expense of the vast majority, who are left struggling to get by.

Natalie

Billings

Out near the end of the valley, I'm parked in the dark, in an industrial park where all the roads are dead end. Sometimes I don't like this, looking out at the dark, with nothing to amuse me, nothing to engage me, with no light to light up what's usually out there and take my mind off what's always out there anyway.

In ten hours I can deliver this load and leave. It's ten hours until daylight, too. I got to town about noon, found this place, went back to town and killed some time looking for a place to do laundry. It has to be not just a place to do laundry but where I can also park the truck. After an hour of driving around I happened upon a Goodwill store where I could park on the side street. Goodwill is a suitable substitute for doing laundry -- buy clean, new old clothes for not that much more than you'd spend washing your old old clothes. I was really, really out of clean clothes, down to nothing, and Goodwill clothes actually tend to be fairly nice clothes. Poor folks don't donate their unwanted or out of style clothes to charity, they wear them. The well to do do not.

Rep. Heinrich Replies:
I Rebut His Hypocricy And Lies

I received a reply today to an email I sent my representative in Washington, Democratic Congressman Martin Heinrich, which email I had also posted here on the web log, which criticized him for voting for a congressional resolution against Palestine seeking United Nations General Assembly approval for statehood, HR 268.

Heinrich's form email reply, which is an astounding example of hypocrisy and boilerplate Israeli propaganda, pretends to explain the issue and why he voted for the resolution.

I will dismantle it, paragraph by paragraph, below.

The Alamo

San Antonio

When you deliver a load in San Antonio you can usually count on driving empty the 135 miles down to Laredo on the Mexican border to pick up your next load. Those are all loads that come out of Mexico. They are NAFTA, Bill Clinton, Reaganomics, send our jobs overseas loads. More freight comes out of Mexico than goes into Mexico, of course, which is why, when you deliver a load anywhere near Laredo, you get sent down there empty. They need empty trucks in Laredo to pick up things made in Mexico that used to be made here.

I have delivered loads in Laredo, headed for Mexico. Brokers take charge of the freight in Laredo. They do the customs paperwork and also arrange for the Mexican trucks to pick them up. Many of those loads were machinery, new factory equipment. But once I picked up used paper making machines at an old paper mill in upper New York state that had closed down. It was in a little town way out in the country on a beautiful little river with green hills all around.
